Tooling Development Process

Step 1: Requirement Review (1 day)

We receive your product drawings or samples, conduct a DFM (manufacturability) review, and propose optimization suggestions.

Step 2: Tooling Design (2-3 days)

We design the tooling based on product requirements, including 3D CAD modeling, process planning, and bill of materials.

Step 3: Precision Machining (3-7 days)

Tooling components are machined with CNC, wire EDM, and other equipment, holding precision within ±0.005mm.

Step 4: Assembly & Tryout (2-3 days)

We assemble the tooling components, run functional tests and precision validation, and adjust tooling parameters.

Step 5: Sample Validation (1-2 days)

We stamp samples with the tooling and inspect dimensions and appearance, delivering only after all requirements are met.

Can tooling development really be completed in 7-15 days?

Yes. For standard stamping or progressive dies, 7-15 days is achievable. The keys are: 1) a mature product design, 2) an early DFM review by our team, and 3) no exceptionally complex processes. Highly complex tooling may require 20-30 days.

Can tooling precision be guaranteed at ±0.005mm?

Yes. Using precision equipment such as slow-wire and wire EDM together with CMM inspection, we achieve ±0.005mm precision—more than enough for most electronic products. Ultra-precision applications can reach ±0.001mm.

How long does the tooling last?

Standard tooling lasts 1M+ strokes, and high-grade tooling can reach 5M strokes. Tooling life depends on material, process difficulty, and operating conditions. We assess and optimize it according to your production needs.

What’s the difference between providing samples and drawings?

If you have drawings, we can start design directly and save scanning/reverse-modeling time; if you only have samples, we perform reverse engineering first. Either way, we conduct a DFM review and offer optimization suggestions.
