Deep Drawing Specifications

Deep drawing forms a flat metal blank into a seamless, jointless shielding can using a punch and die. Because there is no welded or folded seam, a deep-drawn can delivers continuous 360° shielding with no RF leakage path—the preferred choice for high-frequency and high-reliability designs.

FAQ

Deep Drawing Questions

Why choose a one-piece deep-drawn shielding can over a two-piece can?
A deep-drawn one-piece can is seamless, so there is no gap or joint where electromagnetic energy can leak. This gives the highest and most consistent shielding effectiveness, making it ideal for high-frequency (5G/mmWave) and high-reliability products. Two-piece cans trade a small amount of shielding continuity for rework access and lower cost.
How deep can the cavity be drawn?
For deeper cavities we use multi-stage redraw tooling, forming the part through several progressive draws to reach the required depth while keeping wall thickness uniform within ±0.02mm. The achievable depth depends on material, thickness, and corner geometry—send us your drawing for a DFM assessment.
Which materials work best for deep-drawn shielding cans?
Nickel silver and stainless steel draw very well and resist corrosion; copper and brass offer excellent conductivity; aluminum is light and cost-effective. We help you select the alloy that balances shielding effectiveness, formability, solderability, and budget.
Can solder pads and positioning feet be integrated?
Yes. Solder pads, positioning feet, ventilation holes, and pick-up surfaces for SMT placement can all be formed directly into the drawn part, enabling reliable automated assembly without secondary operations.
