The surface finish on an EMI shielding can determines how easily it solders to the PCB, how well it survives the field environment, and its long-term contact resistance. We apply and control each finish in-house to meet your electrical, mechanical, and compliance requirements.

Which finish gives the best solderability for SMT reflow?
Tin plating offers the best wettability and is the most common finish for board-level shielding cans that are placed and reflowed like any other SMT component. A 2-8 μm tin layer ensures consistent, reliable solder joints to the PCB ground.
When is nickel or gold plating recommended?
Nickel is chosen for durability, hardness, and corrosion resistance, and as an under-layer beneath gold. Gold is used where the lowest, most stable contact resistance and oxidation-free reliability are critical—such as medical, aerospace, or high-value RF products.
Are your finishes RoHS and REACH compliant?
Yes. All of our plating and passivation processes are available in RoHS- and REACH-compliant versions, and we can supply material declarations, salt-spray, and solderability test reports to support your certification needs.
How is corrosion resistance verified?
Corrosion resistance is verified by neutral salt-spray (NSS) testing to the duration your application requires. Stainless-steel cans are passivated to remove free iron and form a stable protective layer, while plated cans rely on the nickel/tin/gold barrier system.
